Anyone with a professional skill or area of expertise that could help a library, wherever in the world you live. That includes students, early-career and experienced professionals, and librarians who want to share what they know. You don't need to have worked in a library before.
Public, university, college, school, community and special libraries anywhere in the world can all request support, as can organizations that run library services or reading programs.
Yes. Most volunteers work remotely, and much of the work, such as software, graphics, content and social media, can be done from any country. Some opportunities, like running programs or supporting library services, may need you to be on site, and we'll make that clear before you're matched.
The LVC team reviews every submission. We compare the task a library needs done with volunteers' skills, availability and time zone, then introduce libraries and volunteers who are a good fit. It's done by people, not an algorithm.
It depends on the task the library needs done and on your availability. Some placements are a single project, others run over several months. We agree this with both sides before work begins.
Volunteers contribute their skills at no cost to the library. If a library is able to offer a stipend or cover expenses, that is arranged directly between the library and the volunteer.
